Blog Buddy Field Trip!

Two days ago the 8B team of Heritage Middle School drove one hour to meet our blog buddies. Some of us were nervous about meeting new people but the rest were excited to meet them. It was fun seeing everyone in one big area and waiting to see our buddies. When we got our buddies, some were shy and  some were funny. We had to do a scavenger hunt with our phones. Turned out we didn't need to take pictures, just fill out the form. After we finished we went to play basketball and soccer. After playing we went to lunch. Our school gets regular milk, they get chocolate milk. They also have recess and no uniforms. They are lucky but our school has a bigger gym which is fun for activities in PE

The Inquisitors Mark By. Dianne K. Salerni

The book has a couple main characters. Jax Aubrey is unique. He and his guardian Riley Pendare/Pendragon are Transitioners, people who are able to experience a special eighth day  between Wednesday and Thursday, and have a family magic talent (Jax’s is inquisition, Riley has the voice of command). They are able to protect and to fight the Kin,  super-powerful magic people, all with different talents. Some Kin, like the Evangeline, are good, while some Kin are evil and want the eighth day to be the only day. All was going well, until Jax’s former best friend, Billy, was kidnapped because he knew Jax. Not only that, but he was kidnapped by Jax’s uncle. And Jax’s dad had told Jax that he had no other relatives, besides his mother’s cousin, so what is going on? When Jax is forced to join his family, and the evil Transitioners that they serve, he can’t believe it. They work for the enemy and they want Jax to join them. But, Jax is loyal to Riley and Evangeline. So Jax is either going to die not joining the Transitoners or live and betraying Rliey and Evangeline. Overall this book was good. Lots of moments where you got to think and and really figure out what's happening. They author put detail into the plot and into the characters. Anyone will enjoy reading this book. Overall I'll give this book. 8/10.

Ending of Dead End

Dead End in Norvelt was overall a really good book and not so good a book for the following reasons. I didn't like when Jack pulled the trigger of his dad's gun and go grounded for life. In my opinion I think it was really unfair. His dad was teaching him safety lessons about guns. If he fired the gun his dad should know it was by accident. Instead he assumed he was playing with it on purpose and grounded him for life. But when he accidentally mows his mom's cornfield she got really furious and grounded him for life. Later on in the book Jack finds him self in a mystery case. First he needs to find out who's been killing the towns elders and who loaded his dad's gun. He also might think the elders died from natural causes. But he still needs to find who loaded his dad's gun. The ending really surprised me since Jack finds out who loaded the gun and who was killing the elders. The person who were killing the elders promised this woman to kill all the original Norvelters. Overall this book was really good. Two different mysteries in one book are better than one. Overall I'll give this book 9/10

Dead End in Norvelt By. Jack Gantos

So far In the book Jack, the main character gets grounded for life. His father fought in a battle versus the Japanese. As a rememberace of his service, his father got badges and he kept a fire that he used while fighting in battle. Jack wanted to be just like his dad. Shooting guns and he wanted to join the army. His dad was training him with his rifle. He showed him how to hold it property, how to aim down the sites and how to run with the rifle without pulling a muscle. After lots of training his dad wanted to go hunting with him. He'll let him use his rifle from the battles in the past. After shooting many ducks and almost one deer they went home. When his dad went to work Jack grabbed his rifle and started to play with it. He didn't know it had one bullet in the chamber. He shot the rifle and when his dad found out he got grounded for the whole summer. Jack can only stay in his room and use the restroom.

Rash by Pete Hautman Thoughts on Ending

So far Rash was a pretty good book I'll say. It takes place far into the future. Football, hockey and French fries are banned. Also diseases and illnesses are very common. Any contact with a human you will be forced to use your medicine 1 hour after the contact. After the one hour, the disease will get stronger every second and makes it harder to cure. I like how Bo, the main character is a rule breaker. It can show how all laws changed and what will happen when you break the law. The most facinating thing about the book is football. Football is banned but there is a camp where you play football to reduce your sentence. The opposing team has buff dudes so the other team will feel pain. During many games the players broke bones, injured ribs and got cuts and bruises. Also to prepare for football, they make the players run from bears. The government wanted this because if your getting robbed, you got to run for your life or you will die. Running away from bears is similar to real life. Overall this book was good. Maybe some pictures to show how the camp and the town he lived in looked like. I'll give this book 9/10.

Compare and Contrast Blog#2 Rash and The Eyes of Minds

I will compare and contrast two books. Rash and The Eye of Minds. Rash is taken place in 2074 and The Eye of Minds is taken place in 2120 or around there, the book didn't give the exact time period. Rash and The Eyes of Minds is taken place in the far future. Many many things have changed. In rash you must taken prescription pills everyday to avoid passing on a disease. Diseases and other viruses get passed down quick. Also sports like hockey and football have been banned. Due to players getting to many broken bones and concussions. The only sports people can play are basketball and track. But for track you must wear protective gear to stop injuries. In The Eyes of Minds gamers can take their gaming experience to the next level. They can enter the game it self and play it. They cannot die or suffer injuries. But some games are for 18+ and you can experience real pain. You won't die but, the pain can hurt. These books are both taken in the far future and don't really have  anything in common other than futuristic time period.

Rash by Pete Hautman

Rash is a book taken place in 2074. Everything about the U.S.A today changed greatly. The U.S.S.A taken the place of the USA which means laws are completely different. Football and hockey are banned due to health problems. Running is allowed but you must wear protective gear which slows you down. You also run on gel to help against fall damage. Schools are even more concern about health. You must take prescriptions pills before school to not pass on germs. When you wash your hands, you must get every bit of your hand cleaned. If you don't do any of this it will be considered a crime. And if you're not old enough for jail, you must serve comminty service for 2 years. So far this book is pretty funny and I like how it's different from USA today. So far no real conflicts but the back of the book states a conflict though.
