Blog Buddy Field Trip!

Two days ago the 8B team of Heritage Middle School drove one hour to meet our blog buddies. Some of us were nervous about meeting new people but the rest were excited to meet them. It was fun seeing everyone in one big area and waiting to see our buddies. When we got our buddies, some were shy and  some were funny. We had to do a scavenger hunt with our phones. Turned out we didn't need to take pictures, just fill out the form. After we finished we went to play basketball and soccer. After playing we went to lunch. Our school gets regular milk, they get chocolate milk. They also have recess and no uniforms. They are lucky but our school has a bigger gym which is fun for activities in PE

The Inquisitors Mark By. Dianne K. Salerni

The book has a couple main characters. Jax Aubrey is unique. He and his guardian Riley Pendare/Pendragon are Transitioners, people who are able to experience a special eighth day  between Wednesday and Thursday, and have a family magic talent (Jax’s is inquisition, Riley has the voice of command). They are able to protect and to fight the Kin,  super-powerful magic people, all with different talents. Some Kin, like the Evangeline, are good, while some Kin are evil and want the eighth day to be the only day. All was going well, until Jax’s former best friend, Billy, was kidnapped because he knew Jax. Not only that, but he was kidnapped by Jax’s uncle. And Jax’s dad had told Jax that he had no other relatives, besides his mother’s cousin, so what is going on? When Jax is forced to join his family, and the evil Transitioners that they serve, he can’t believe it. They work for the enemy and they want Jax to join them. But, Jax is loyal to Riley and Evangeline. So Jax is either going to die not joining the Transitoners or live and betraying Rliey and Evangeline. Overall this book was good. Lots of moments where you got to think and and really figure out what's happening. They author put detail into the plot and into the characters. Anyone will enjoy reading this book. Overall I'll give this book. 8/10.

Ending of Dead End

Dead End in Norvelt was overall a really good book and not so good a book for the following reasons. I didn't like when Jack pulled the trigger of his dad's gun and go grounded for life. In my opinion I think it was really unfair. His dad was teaching him safety lessons about guns. If he fired the gun his dad should know it was by accident. Instead he assumed he was playing with it on purpose and grounded him for life. But when he accidentally mows his mom's cornfield she got really furious and grounded him for life. Later on in the book Jack finds him self in a mystery case. First he needs to find out who's been killing the towns elders and who loaded his dad's gun. He also might think the elders died from natural causes. But he still needs to find who loaded his dad's gun. The ending really surprised me since Jack finds out who loaded the gun and who was killing the elders. The person who were killing the elders promised this woman to kill all the original Norvelters. Overall this book was really good. Two different mysteries in one book are better than one. Overall I'll give this book 9/10

Dead End in Norvelt By. Jack Gantos

So far In the book Jack, the main character gets grounded for life. His father fought in a battle versus the Japanese. As a rememberace of his service, his father got badges and he kept a fire that he used while fighting in battle. Jack wanted to be just like his dad. Shooting guns and he wanted to join the army. His dad was training him with his rifle. He showed him how to hold it property, how to aim down the sites and how to run with the rifle without pulling a muscle. After lots of training his dad wanted to go hunting with him. He'll let him use his rifle from the battles in the past. After shooting many ducks and almost one deer they went home. When his dad went to work Jack grabbed his rifle and started to play with it. He didn't know it had one bullet in the chamber. He shot the rifle and when his dad found out he got grounded for the whole summer. Jack can only stay in his room and use the restroom.

Rash by Pete Hautman Thoughts on Ending

So far Rash was a pretty good book I'll say. It takes place far into the future. Football, hockey and French fries are banned. Also diseases and illnesses are very common. Any contact with a human you will be forced to use your medicine 1 hour after the contact. After the one hour, the disease will get stronger every second and makes it harder to cure. I like how Bo, the main character is a rule breaker. It can show how all laws changed and what will happen when you break the law. The most facinating thing about the book is football. Football is banned but there is a camp where you play football to reduce your sentence. The opposing team has buff dudes so the other team will feel pain. During many games the players broke bones, injured ribs and got cuts and bruises. Also to prepare for football, they make the players run from bears. The government wanted this because if your getting robbed, you got to run for your life or you will die. Running away from bears is similar to real life. Overall this book was good. Maybe some pictures to show how the camp and the town he lived in looked like. I'll give this book 9/10.

Compare and Contrast Blog#2 Rash and The Eyes of Minds

I will compare and contrast two books. Rash and The Eye of Minds. Rash is taken place in 2074 and The Eye of Minds is taken place in 2120 or around there, the book didn't give the exact time period. Rash and The Eyes of Minds is taken place in the far future. Many many things have changed. In rash you must taken prescription pills everyday to avoid passing on a disease. Diseases and other viruses get passed down quick. Also sports like hockey and football have been banned. Due to players getting to many broken bones and concussions. The only sports people can play are basketball and track. But for track you must wear protective gear to stop injuries. In The Eyes of Minds gamers can take their gaming experience to the next level. They can enter the game it self and play it. They cannot die or suffer injuries. But some games are for 18+ and you can experience real pain. You won't die but, the pain can hurt. These books are both taken in the far future and don't really have  anything in common other than futuristic time period.

Rash by Pete Hautman

Rash is a book taken place in 2074. Everything about the U.S.A today changed greatly. The U.S.S.A taken the place of the USA which means laws are completely different. Football and hockey are banned due to health problems. Running is allowed but you must wear protective gear which slows you down. You also run on gel to help against fall damage. Schools are even more concern about health. You must take prescriptions pills before school to not pass on germs. When you wash your hands, you must get every bit of your hand cleaned. If you don't do any of this it will be considered a crime. And if you're not old enough for jail, you must serve comminty service for 2 years. So far this book is pretty funny and I like how it's different from USA today. So far no real conflicts but the back of the book states a conflict though.

Final Thoughts on The Tomb of Shadows

Here are my final thoughts on The Tomb of Shadows By. Peter Lerangis. The book has lots of none stop action. Each chapter or two will have so much action, like a plane falling out of the sky with goods inside. Fighting a magical Griffon and can destroy bad memories. escaping a pyramid that was rigged to blow and much more action! What I disliked about this book is. They characters should use their special abilities they earned in clever ways or in a supportive way to end off fights that could almost kill their friends and others. Throughout the book the characters enhanced their abilities making them even more stronger and supportive. But the author didn't put them into showcase and to see if they can work. It's like they just improved an ability and hardly ever used. It would be nice for the author to use the characters enhanced abilities in maybe clearing areas. They could not some areas and maybe they could find a magical area that beasts hide and kill them for more unique powers. The abilities were used in the end no where else which was depressing. Lots of none stop action and unique abilities could make this book a whole lot better. Overall, this book was okay but needed to put special gifts like abilities to work instead of holding them back. The action in this book is none stop and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action books, mystery books and a little bit of mythological because this book does contain some beasts mythology. I'll give this book 5.5/10.

Holocaust Reflection

They watched this happen because. The nazi were to powerful. If you tried to stop them you will die. The Jews were scared of dying so they just stood by. People didn't want them to die. No one could stop the nazis and they would be too strong to stop. After seeing the deaths and beating of Jews, people wanted to help them still live, raise families and follow their religion. It was a huge risk but it was worth it. I think I would gather a large group of people and find any Jewish person and we can help them. They can educate their kids of their religion. I don't think it's worth risking my life to let the one or two Jews teach their religion. I want to get a large group of Jews instead of like ten or five

Aha Moment: The Tomb of shadows

In the book Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows the character soon realizes that she has her memory back. She is known for her great memory. She had to fight a griffon in order to get rid of ad memories. Once she killed the griffin, all her memories got deleted because she only had bad memories in her life. The whole team was struggling to get to areas because they relied on her super memory. Once she got her memory back, she lead the team to areas of the world that she visited before and she can enter it without getting harmed by monsters. This can change things by. With her memory, she can remember things in the last past that can help them in future situations.

Seven Wonders Tomb of Shadows: What I think About it So Far

I think everyone is overreacting over the Dr. sacrificing him life for everyone to keep moving forward in the quest. The Dr. is very old and sick. I think he should just give up his life and let everyone get more closer to the quest. I predict that once the Dr. gave up his live and died, a serious problem will occur and he will need to solve it. The Dr. graduated from Yale. Which makes him superior in science and math. He can solve the hardest problems they give him. Okay once he dies, I think that they will find a person that can help them on their quest. That person can be skilled in combat and survival. Survival can be good so no one important dies. The combat can help because any monster or foe can fall fairly quickly. Also I really like the concept of where you fight the mythological creature. When you fight it, your bad memories will be erased and it could be useful if your sleeping or have flashbacks if your parents dying and its uncomfortable to think about that.

Adversity of Anne Frank's

There is many times that Anne Frank faced adversity but I'm going to write about how she can't see anyone her own age. Anne Frank is 13 years old. She has to live with older people around her. It can be difficult not to be able to talk about stuff she likes with other people. The only person who is close to her age is Peter. He's 17 years old. It's hard to talk to a guy who's older than you and doesn't have anything in common. She did tries to have a little fun and try to mess around with him. Peter took it seriously and got mad.

Where I want to travel in the future

Where I want to travel in the future is Hawaii. I want to visit that because it's a lot warmer than Illinois. In Illinois  it's annoying when it's snows and the food here isn't so good. If you want to eat some good food you got drive 10 miles for a good restaurant. In Hawaii, it's always sunny, the food should be good and you can swim with dolphins.

Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows By, Peter Lerangis

I like when he finds out his dad is alive. It changes the story's plot a lot. But he also finds out that his mother died. Page 92 The Tomb of Shadows. "He killed her, Jack," dad said. "The man is a murderder ." "No! I said. "It's not true! She" "She went to meet him in a lab in McMurdo Sound and never came back. Marco gives jack a radio so he can communicate with his dad. The radio has a like Limit for its use. In about 2 minutes it will die and it takes sunlight to recharge. He speaks with his dad and he tells him where he is and tells him that he near. Dad is coming but he got hit. The plane he is driving is going to blow but he jumps out safely. When he lands Jacks tells him that mom is alive. But dad knows she isn't so he tells him the truth about what happens. Now with dad in their side, the quest to save mom is failed but a new quest or challenge will await them.

Compare and Contrast #2

I chose The Eyes of Minds and Seven Wonders the Tomb of Shadows. In the beginning of each book it went straight into a problem. In  The Eyes of Minds Michael tries to save this girl who wanted to commite suicide. In the Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows Jack finds out his mom is stuck in the bottom of a tomb inside of a pyramid. He goes inside with his friends and an alarm goes off. A speaker is counting down from 20 indicating the place is going to blow. They all made it out alive but his mother dies in the explosion. These books are different because. In The Eyes of Minds, it takes place in 2130 with all kinds of new technology and a new type of way for gamers to game. In the Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows, it takes place around 2016-2020. While they were fighting they were using guns to fight against soldiers. In the Eyes of Minds they use guns to fight robots. Totally different enemies but same concept of weapons.

Compare and contrast

I chose The Eyes of Minds Zebra Forest. The both books contains a major plot twist. In Zebra Forest the book is quite short so the plot twist is near the front. In The Eyes of Minds the book is quite long so the plot twist is near the end. The plot twist in Zebra Forest wasn't huge but it did change the story's plot. The plot twist in The Eyes of Minds was significant because it happens to a main character.

Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows

What I think about the Seven Wonders The Tomb of Shadows by Peter Lerangis  is. Why would the kids get machetes? They Recieved light body armor and a belt to hold knifes. I don't  think the machete is really nessessary for the kids. It might be hard to swing the blade and by the time they swing it at an enemy they might die. I think the knifes should helpful. It's not heavy so anyone can use it. Also the people who are attacking the island have guns. Instead of machetes they should have a vest and helmet for more protection against bullets. I also think a character might die in this attack. There might be hundreds of soliders on the island and if they get caught the soliders will alert the other soliders to kill them all. But they escaped into the forest so it might be hard for the whole group to die.

New Years Resolution

My New Years resolution for this new year is. I want to try my best in 8th grade. If I don't do good in middle school then high school will be very hard and I might not pass. I want to work on my homework and try my best. I also want to read twenty pages every day because high school is like fifty pages. My non school resolution is to get grand prestige on black ops 3. I just got to practice and keep trying until I get better.
